I trained my 4 YEAR OLD daughter to swim underwater… and honestly, I learned a lot along the way too.

This video captures the first time she really started getting the hang of swimming, gaining confidence, diving underwater, and learning how to move through the water on her own. She’s only 4 years old, already rides a bike with no training wheels, and is one of the most conversational little kids I’ve ever met. But even though she’s always LOVED the water, we never really focused on formal swim lessons during the toddler years.

So this summer, we decided to change that.

As a single dad, one of the greatest blessings in my life has been the ability to invest real one-on-one time into my daughter. These swimming sessions have become one of my favorite parts of life.

We’ve been working on:
• Starfish floating
• Bubbles
• Kickboard drills
• Kicking off the bottom
• Underwater confidence
• Riding on daddy’s back to learn movement through the water

Now listen… this probably isn’t the “professional” way to teach a 4 year old how to swim 😂 but it’s been working really well for MY daughter.

We reward completed drills and laps with gummy bears, alternate between structured drills and free swim time, and use small dive toys to keep her excited and engaged underwater.

One thing I think helped a LOT was simply getting her comfortable around water from the time she was a baby. Bath time, water splashing on her face, pool days, consistency… all of it adds up.

Most importantly:
Consistency matters.

We usually swim 1–2 times per week for 1–2 hours each session.

This is Episode 1 of Daddy Daughter Day on our brand new channel, where we’ll be documenting life, growth, adventures, learning experiences, and memories together.

And honestly… through making this video, I was reminded of God’s love for us too.

Exercise.
Quality time with my daughter.
Growth.
God.

That’s the trifecta for me.
