Mahadevi Verma Biography in Hindi

Mahadevi Verma was born in 1907 into a well-educated middle-class family in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh. Her father, Shri Govind Prasad, after completing higher education, worked as a headmaster, and her mother, Smt. Hemrani Devi, was an educated and religious-minded, skilled homemaker. Mahadevi, the first child of her parents, was born after a long wait and a long prayer. It is said that this was the first time a girl had been born in their family after seven generations. Therefore, considering her a special blessing from the family deity Durga, she was named Mahadevi. Who knew that in the future, Mahadevi would prove the significance of this name through her personality and work.

Mahadevi's memoirs and sketches vividly express her extroverted personality, but her poems express more of anguish, compassion, and loneliness, highlighting her introverted nature. This contradiction in her personality has become a problem not only for her readers but also for critics. If Mahadevi's prose and poetry are placed side by side, they appear to be the creations of two distinct individuals, each with a conflicting consciousness. Poetry, prose, painting, music, the national movement, women's consciousness, etc.—there are so many areas in which Mahadevi imparted immortality by bestowing the virtuous touch of her illustrious life.
