Filmed during a recent training session held in Hybond's new industrial showroom facility; the operator can be seen applying a high frequency corona spot treatment to sample strips of fabric.
Plasma treatment can aid manufacturers who wish to bond challenging materials with low surface energy, such as many types of plastics. Prior to treatment, adhesive applied to low energy surfaces will bead up like rain on a car bonnet; the adhesive won't effectively 'wet out' across the surface area.
For ultimate sticking power, an adhesive needs to cover the entire substrate surface maximising adhesive contact between bonded surfaces, and plasma treatments such as the process shown here can achieve this. This unit can also be automated within a manufacturing setting, reducing the hand held element where required.
