Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the city has suffered perhaps the most from Russian shelling. 4,500 multi-story buildings were damaged, another 500 cannot be restored. As a result, about 150,000 people were left homeless.
On April 4, Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov asked British architect Norman Foster to rebuild the city. The specialist found it difficult to refuse.
"All the houses can be reconstructed, brought closer to European standards - made modern and energy efficient. The work can be carried out even without evicting people," the statement says. In addition to housing, Igor Terekhov asked Norman to focus on science. In the end, the idea arose to create a science park on the territory of the Barabashovo market.
