Mouse pointer not working properly in VMware Workstation 17 Pro? Cursor lagging, doubling up, disappearing, or refusing to move at all inside the VM? Here's the fix.

This is one of the most common VMware annoyances and it's usually solved in a couple of minutes once you know where to look.

Covered in this video:
00:00 — The problem (what it looks like)
00:00 — Fix 1: installing VMware Tools / open-vm-tools
00:00 — Fix 2: mouse settings inside the guest OS
00:00 — Fix 3: VM display and 3D acceleration settings
00:00 — Ctrl+Alt to release a trapped cursor
00:00 — Verifying it's working

If none of these work for you, drop a comment with your host OS and guest OS and I'll try to help.

Tested on VMware Workstation 17 Pro. Note that VMware has since moved to calendar versioning — 25H2 and 26H1 replaced the 17.x line — but these fixes apply to both.
