In this PTC'24 Center Stage Session, The Infrastructure Builders, gain insights on global infrastructure and what we can anticipate for it's future.
Over the past five years, we have witnessed profound transformation in network throughput and the evolution of specialized, scalable data centers. When we compare the cost of one megabyte of long-haul network throughput between 2003 and 2023, it has plummeted to just 1% of its 2003 price. Meanwhile, the utilization of digital infrastructure has shifted, with fewer than 10 companies responsible for consuming over 50% of the world's infrastructure. How will the world look in 2033 when we are one-third of the way through the digital century?
Key questions:
Does this trend continue? If it does, who are the buyers of data centers and networks in 10 years?
Are the traditional telcos destined for obsolescence or a resurgence?
Does the operator of tomorrow just ride on the OTT’s infrastructure?
Are we headed toward a capacity overbuild like 2001?
This session featured esteemed speakers including Jonathan Atkin, Managing Director, Global Head - Communications Infrastructure, RBC Capital Markets; David Coughlan, CEO, SubCom; Joe Kava, Vice President Global Data Centers, Google; Rangu Salgame, Co-Founder, Chairman & CEO, Princeton Digital Group; and Gary Smith, President & CEO, Ciena.
