Number seven, journal selection. How do you select the best journal? It's up to you. That's the key thing. It depends on what you want to have, what you want to achieve, where you want to be known in, and also what you can afford.
All of that plays, plays a role here. So, of course, what do you want? Do you want an impact factor of a certain level? Do you need the prestige or the career progression that this helps with if you have a high impact factor or publication? Is this going to be in a specialty journal or rather a multidisciplinary journal?
What are the scope and the aims of these journals, and where does your work actually fit in? Then again, there's also a couple of practical things to consider. For example, what's the turnaround time in the journal audience? Is this really fitting to what you need right now? Do you need a quick publication or are you can you afford to wait for a couple of months?
And very importantly, are you being charged for it? Is there open access? Is there free publishing ways? Are there also support funds from your institution maybe? It also plays a role here.
