Prospex for Seiko means "Professional Specification" that their timepieces in this category are built with very high standards to be used by professionals. Seiko’s answer to their 62MAS from 1965 is the modernized and pocket-friendly priced Seiko Prospex Diver SBDC051.

These new timepieces also echo the design of the 1965 original, but are thoroughly up-to-date in their functions and meet Seiko's stringent standards for diver's watches. And to celebrate the occasion, Seiko introduced the Prospex 200M Automatic Green Sea Special Edition, Ref. SBDC077.

The Seiko Prospex 200M Automatic Green Sea Special Edition Ref. SBDC077 is powered by Seiko's automatic caliber, 6R15, operating at 21,600 BPH (3 Hertzs) with hacking and hand winding capabilities. It has 23 jewels with a power reserve of 50 hours through a Spron 510 mainspring.
The 200m water resistant stainless steel case measure 42.6mm case without the crown has a lug to lug length of 50mm, and a height of about 13.8mm, with a lug width of 20mm. The 200m water resistant case is treated with Seiko’s DiaShield coating on the case and bracelet. This provides scratch-protection and extra corrosion resistance. While it does not make the watch scratch resistant like Dievas and Damasko, it does reduce scratches and scuffs significantly.

The shimmering blue bezel rotates buttery smooth into 120 positions has minimal free play in a clockwise direction. A mixture of satin brush and Seiko high polishing on the sides can be seen on the whole watch, the Zaratsu polished line on the case side adds a touch of contemporary refinement.

The screw down crown at three o'clock is sterile. On the back of the watch, the screw down case back allows 200m water resistant and is also brushed, featuring the recognizable tsunami emblem that is a staple on the other Seiko divers. The case does come with lug holes allowing swapping of straps with ease.

Onto the dial, the design is hugely based on the 62MAS, but with a colorway that is coveted by Seiko enthusiasts. The color is probably the main highlight of this special edition watch with fume dark green dial and applied markers. The gradient dial graduates towards the center, from a deep black color to sunburst light green.

It is a beauty to look at and probably can stare at it for hours. The hands are more extensive and carry long-lasting Lumibrite to be highly legible even in dark water. Besides, the second hand is done in yellow that pairs beautifully with the green background, and readable with ease.

The design of the steel bracelet compliments the watch beautifully, with a seamless look and feel. The bracelet is a step above the other Prospex collection like the Sumo and Shogun. Compared to the regular flat bracelet design, the SBDC077's link has an angled design and a more solid feel overall.

Overall, the Prospex 200M Automatic Green Sea Special Edition Ref. SBDC077 is a very worthy addition to the Prospex collection and indeed a model that will find its way into many diver watch lover's collections.
