Tests of a modified version of the Dambusters' bouncing bomb optimised for DeHaviland Mosquitos claimed the lives of a pilot and navigator in October 1945. The strike aircraft was flying too low, and the blast of water kicked up by the reverse spin of the bouncing bomb on its first impact struck the tailplane. The aircraft immediately lost control, twisted and disintegrated.
