ScienceIsEverywhere! Find faces in unusual places.
Welcome to Science Is Everywhere, the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center’s Annual Fundraiser. We’re continuing our commitment to making science accessible to everyone, everywhere, with our second-ever virtual event. This year, we’re challenging you, San Diego, to show us that Science Is Everywhere through a photo scavenger hunt. To issue the first challenge we have our CEO, Dr. Steve Snyder.
Our brains are adept at finding patterns—even where none exist. It’s called Pareidolia. We’re particularly good at seeing faces, in all sorts of things: cereal floating in a bowl of milk, the front grill of a car, the folds in a tree trunk. We may be neurologically wired to find faces. Being good at identifying faces may have given our ancestors an evolutionary advantage.
So show us great pictures of faces that you find, as long as they’re not actual faces! Once we receive 50 photos of faces, or $500 in donations, we’ll unlock the next challenge. And every challenge unlocked means more prizes thrown in the pot!
Since every submission or donation is an entry, the more you participate, the more chances you have to win! One lucky entry will win our Grand Prize: a private screening for you and 99 of your closest friends here in our Heikoff Giant Dome Theater. The top five submissions for each challenge will be featured in an exhibit at the Fleet and win a 4-pack of tickets. It all leads up to our explosive virtual event on Thursday, June 2nd, at 6 p.m.
