Edinburgh Showcase 2015: 'Hug' by Verity Standen
Verity Standen is a composer, performer and musical director based in Bristol. Her work focuses primarily on the intricacies of the human voice and explores the context and relationship between the audience and the voice.
Hug starts with blindfolded audience members seated on chairs positioned randomly around the performance space; and a swell of sound building as a choir enters the room. Unable to visually gauge their surroundings, participants experience the performance through sound, breath and the vibrations of the body of individual singers who embrace them as the choir of voices deliver the song around them.
