Livernois: Detroit to Ferndale | 4K POV Drive
A no-talking drive along the south end of Livernois Road.
We start today’s drive turning right onto Dragoon from Vernor Rd. You can see a sign on the right that says To Northbound Livernois. Livernois goes a few blocks farther south than Vernor, but is one way going south and we are driving north today so…
Will only be on Dragoon Street for one block and then it turns into Livernois. There are some interesting buildings, churches, a train yard, fire stations, and colorfully-painted businesses along this section of our drive. The very long building on the right that goes all the way from Warren to Tireman is the DTE Service Center.
At Alaska street, we will veer to the right a little as Livernois changes from a road running northwest to a more direct north & south direction. Around (18:57) we will go past U of D Mercy and enter into Detroit’s University District. You can see the entrance to UD Mercy on our McNichols video: • 6 Mile Rd & McNichols | Livonia to Detroit The area north of 7 Mile looks more like a northern suburb than Detroit. If it wasn’t for the fire stations and City of Detroit buildings, this area looks a lot like Ferndale. We don’t enter Ferndale until we cross 8 Mile Rd (25:20) and enter Oakland County. At 9 Mile, Livernois is kind of strange as it appears to go along the west edge of a large city parking lot and doesn’t even seem like a road. The final few blocks of today’s drive is residential until Livernois ends at Oakridge street. Livernois actually picks up again about four miles north of here at 15 Mile and runs north until it ends in Rochester hills. (Maybe we’ll take that drive together another day)
