Horse mower. Setting up the cutting unit.
Replacing the sliding plates (friction) and sharpening the scythe.
Why did I tighten the sliding plates, why is it necessary to maintain a gap within a certain limit? With small gaps, premature wear of the scythe segments and counter-cutting plates of the fingers occurs, the resistance to the movement of the knife in the finger bar increases, which in turn leads to breakage of the parts of the cutting unit and its drive mechanism. With large gaps, the quality of the cut deteriorates, which can cause an increase in the cutting height and a shortfall in the grass harvest.
Showing how I sharpen the scythe segments with a grinder, I may possibly run into criticism from "conservatives" who believe that sharpening cannot be done with anything other than files and whetstones. But if you do it wisely and correctly, then the sharpening is very high-quality and fast. We do not live in the Stone Age and now almost everything is sharpened using various machines (devices).
