The controversy surrounding Jokowi's fake diploma case has heated up again. Roy Suryo and his team have officially requested that investigators halt the alleged slander and defamation case by issuing a Termination of Investigation Order (SP3). The request is based on discrepancies in the diploma documents between the General Elections Commission (KPU) and police investigators.
In the latest developments in Jokowi's fake diploma case, Roy Suryo and his team's attorney, Refly Harun, believes there is a serious problem because two official state institutions are said to have submitted different diploma specimens. He argued that if the documents were authentic, there should be no discrepancies in the versions.
The issue of document discrepancies has become new ammunition in the Jokowi fake diploma case, which has been ongoing since 2022. Roy's team has requested that the focus of the case be returned to the main substance, namely proving the authenticity of the diploma, rather than the defamation law.
Relfy Harun explained that two institutions submitted specimens of President Joko Widodo's diploma. The first was the Directorate of General Crimes at the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the National Police Headquarters on May 22. Second, the General Elections Commission (KPU) opened access to the documents after the Central Information Commission (KIP) ruled in favor of the applicant's lawsuit.
According to Refly, the discrepancy in the documents cannot be considered trivial. "If the diplomas are genuine, they should be identical. These two official institutions submitted different specimens. This is serious," he stressed.
He believes that given these discrepancies, the charges of defamation and slander against Roy Suryo and his colleagues should be dropped. This is because the substance of the issue has not been fully resolved.
Refly also stated that this case will enter a new phase. In addition to the previous report, there will likely be additional reports against KPU commissioners, both regionally and nationally, regarding the discrepancies in the documents.
