Turned Wooden Pots With Lids, Made from Firewood
This is a real nice project and makes a lovely gift (well I hope so anyway!). Using just a log from the wood stack I turned one in about 20 minutes using a chuck in the lathe and simple tools. It has a fitted lid that is turned at the same time as the main pot, so they fit together and I think they look quite good.
I am no lathe expert so I’m sure all my many mistakes will be pointed out to me, but even I can make these and they are really satisfying. they need making in a particular order though - that's what this film is for. I made a gouge and a small cutting tool from chainsaw files – because they are hard and keep sharp for a while.
I think this is a piece of apple tree from Madeline and Mike’s orchard. We helped them prune some old trees back in the spring and these branches were going on the fire but I rescued a couple as an experiment.
