I entered the most BIZARRE MARKET in the Amazon 🇵🇪
What is one of the most exotic markets in the Amazon like? I went to the Belén Market in Iquitos, Peru, to experience firsthand the culture, food, and some of the most impressive traditions of the Peruvian Amazon.
In this market, we found things that rarely appear in a conventional market: piranha, pirarucu, alligator, turtle, Amazonian snails, Suri larvae, exotic foods, fruits, medicinal plants, and traditional amulets.
More than just a market, this place shows how the people who live along the banks of the Amazon River have adapted their diet and way of life to the forest.

One of the most interesting things is to realize how the Amazon River determines the population's routine. Depending on the water level, residents even change their economic activity, working in transportation during the flood season and in agriculture when the river is low.
We also faced one of the most different experiences of the trip: eating live Suri, a larva found inside palm trees and traditionally consumed in the Amazon region.
It may seem shocking to outsiders, but many of these practices are part of the culture and history of the people who live in the Peruvian Amazon.
