DHCP is responsible for assigning IP addresses to the devices on your network, and as such, is a critical core service. Having a DHCP server go offline can cause a multitude of disruptions on the network as the number of devices that are unable to obtain an IP address increases. Thankfully, there is a feature included with Windows Server called DHCP Failover. Utilizing this feature, you can avoid downtime by creating pairs of DHCP servers, either in a load balancing scenario, or setting one server up as a hot standby.
In this video, David will demonstrate how to setup DHCP Failover on Windows Server 2019, utilizing the built-in graphical tools. In this scenario, the load balancing configuration will be demonstrated.
Prerequisites include:
Windows Server 2012 or higher.
Administrative privileges on the servers
