So I decided to share a little bit of my thoughts about what I appreciate in social dance …
What I like most about this video besides dancing with Aaron who is an incredible leader, super generous and kind dancer... is that I'm having space to enjoy my own dance, the way I play with the music, feel each step and transfer my weight, following something and still continuing with my own identity at the time…
In my perception, I see a conversation in this dance, where the parties are in no hurry to communicate something and there is a passive, attentive listening.
I believe, especially for the follower, who is being led, there is a whole journey to find the way to express yourself... and that for me is not only valuable for the look of the dance, but much more for the feeling.
Knowing what you like, the way you like to move, knowing how to express what you're hearing in music, gives you a pleasure that is yours first... and then you share with others.
If everyone searches for what is pleasurable, finds ways to be nurtured, it's easier to share that moment, build something together... and not be so connected to expectations.
Also .. last thought 😅...
Those moments of silence between us where we are playing with our own musicality.. for me .. helps us to be grounded in the present moment and more receptive to build the partner connection.
