#Renovation in Motoren s.r.o. and the first rides.
The number of pieces produced is not specified anywhere. So far, I have seen the highest serial number on the engine at 250/559 around 4500 and at 350/360 about 1200.
Jawa 350 type 360 Automatic popularly called Automatic is a motorcycle developed by Jawa, manufactured since 1964. A motorcycle with an automatic clutch is recognized at first glance by the clutch cover of the engine, which has a cylindrical protrusion for a large clutch basket.
In 1963, Jawa developed the world's first model of this content with an engine that had an automatic centrifugal clutch, which provided greater comfort when riding a motorcycle. It is mounted on the main shaft of the gearbox, works in oil, has a multi-blade construction. In addition to the automatic connecting and disconnecting drive and driven part, it is also equipped with manual control and semi-automatic shut-off, forced control with a control lever. All you need to control the motorcycle is the rotary throttle grip, the control lever and the brakes. When starting off, just add the throttle and the motorcycle will start smoothly, when stopping, the clutch will automatically disengage and the engine will idle. It also allows the motorcycle to be pushed and was only slightly more expensive than a normal clutch. Later, the clutch was improved against slipping during strong and sudden engagement.
#CLUTCH #case:
The design has been patented in almost every country in the world to which Jawa motorcycles have been exported. At a time when the clutch was being prepared for series production, an article appeared in the Italian magazine Motociclismo about a small Honda 50 Cub with an automatic transmission. This news could not stop in Java without being noticed. The automation of this 50 cm3 machine will definitely be interesting. However, using a spare parts catalog at Jawa, they found that the automatic had nothing to do with the automatic transmission, but that it was suspiciously similar to an automatic clutch. Little Honda Cub was brought to the Jawa plant, dismantled there and they had no doubts. Jawa's patent attorneys in France and the United Kingdom were united - Honda fitted the automatic clutch almost without modification to the new Cub motorcycle. At the same time, a letter arrived in Prague from the European representation of Honda in Hamburg that a winged brand from the land of the rising sun is interested in an automatic clutch. They wrote from Jawa that they were pleased with the interest and asked a Honda representative for an accurate statement. There was no further statement from Honda. And so the "Clutch Case" began to evolve. Honda threatened problems in all countries where the company exported its small motorcycles with this clutch. Naturally, no manufacturer ranks above this. There was nothing that could be done in this case, at least it seemed so. Honda paid Jawe a lump sum for Cub motorcycles imported into the United Kingdom, and in other countries where the Czechoslovak automatic centrifugal clutch was protected by a patent, the Japanese manufacturer paid a fixed price based on the number of pieces imported. Why the conditions were different for Great Britain is not more important today, the crucial thing is that the problem has been solved.
