Little AlterBoy & EchoBoy Jr. - Hip-Hop Vocal Effects
Little AlterBoy and EchoBoy Jr. can add character, depth, and surreality to any vocal track. Listen to how this hip-hop vocal chain is warped, delayed, and shifted with multiple levels of tuning and automation to create a wider, thicker sound that helps it stand out above the beat. Each instance of Little AlterBoy applies a different texture. One instance was used to shift the vocals down an octave; another embellished the vocals with a slightly lower harmony; another just altered the formant of the vocal ad-lib track to warp the sound of the chorus while still maintaining the pitch; and one instance was used to "quantize" the hype track and the verse by locking them to the nearest semitone. EchoBoy Jr. helped create the main vocal throw (a very analog-sounding quarter-note delay), as well as a crunchy ping-pong delay during the intro. Both plug-ins helped to "drive" and "saturate" the vocals, which added harmonics and intensity to the track.
