Operation Gothic Serpent: The Story Behind Black Hawk Down
In August 1993, a joint U.S. special operations force, known as Task Force Ranger, with personnel from all tier one units across the armed forces, or enablers for them, deployed to Somalia. It would be later known as the battle of Mogadishu, but there was way more than meets the eye. All Tier One Units had a role in Somalia, which ultimately fueled the mission to hunt down and capture the Somalian Warlord named Mohammed Farah Aideed. The mission was dubbed, ‘Operation Gothic Serpent’.
