Axial deformation in a constant cross-section bar is easy to calculate, but what if the bar is tapered? It turns out that tapered bars are not very difficult either and we can find the expression by starting with a stepped bar. I show you how to do an approximate solution and how to extend it to be an exact solution. NOTE: at about 8:30, I forget to write 4/pi in front of the integral sign. My apologies.
