First recording victory on a level that would be expected to be the Ghosts' last line of defense before Toc-Man himself. It helps that I had scouted the level to make sure I knew how precisely to use the Magic Key, which was obtained at the end of the last level from the global score exceeding 765,000 points, without using the Magic Key, and I succeeded in covering against that potential throw-off as well. By the way, the game is just showing the Magic Key being used in case you're wondering about the thumbnail.
Magic Key shenanigans aside, Grave Danger is more about the involved set pieces such as the music being a reminder of how you're so close to your goal but the Ghosts will stop at nothing to impede your progress; than it is about being overwhelmingly difficult, although it WILL still catch you if you get complacent. If nothing else with the gameplay difficulty involvement, we do see a combination of Ghosts, Torch Skeletons, and Walking Graves in an early area where you start needing to climb your way up. The thunder clouds can also be scary to get past at times, but aside from their interval lightning shots straight downward, they basically act like the blue coffins, which can make Butt Bouncing useful to get on top of them, maybe making the timing more favorable. I'll take a moment to appreciate that the first few thunder clouds are too high up for the Butt Bounce to reach, making sure that they have to be maneuvered through to teach the player how they work, as opposed to in the original PMW version of this level where they could be Power Gripped.
There is plenty of Fruit Door usage, so the level becomes about collecting the different types of Fruits to open these doors. This eventually leads off to going through a sort of fortress to handle things after we're able to even see Mrs. Pac-Man, or Pac-Mom as she is called and redesigned here because of copyright issues involvement, and the Toc-Man statue. The PACMAN letter collection is even finished halfway through the fortress, so it goes to show how the place is interested in building up tension for the final battle with Toc-Man.
Not bad, Pac-Man World. We can say that the level design is ultimately solid. However, I will save the elaboration for next time.
