Ansys Fluent Tutorial | Compressible Flow in Nozzle Fundamentals Explained in 21 Minutes!

In this tutorial, we’ll model a convergent–divergent (CD) nozzle in ANSYS Fluent and investigate the formation of a normal shock wave inside the divergent section. Using a 2D axisymmetric approach, we simplify the nozzle as a quasi-1D flow and analyze how inlet and outlet pressure conditions influence the shock location.

🔍 What you’ll learn in this video:

✅ Setting up a 2D axisymmetric model for a CD nozzle
✅ Defining compressible air with the ideal gas law and the Sutherland viscosity model
✅ Applying pressure inlet and pressure outlet boundary conditions
✅ Using Full Multigrid (FMG) Initialization and pseudo time stepping for stable convergence
✅ Visualizing velocity and pressure contours to study shock wave behavior

This tutorial is useful for students, researchers, and engineers interested in compressible flow, nozzle design, and shock wave analysis.
