The Thar Desert, A Hot sand Desert, Situated In Northwestern India And Southeastern Pakistan, Covering An Total Surface Area Of About 200,000 Square Kilometres, it is the largest desert in India . Thar Desert covers parts of India and Pakistan. The Desert Is Spread Across Four States In India, Namely Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, And Gujarat. The Desert Also Covers The Provinces Of Punjab And Sindh Of Pakistan. About 90% Of The Thar Desert Lies In India, And About 10% Is In Pakistan. Thar Desert Covers Nearly 60% Of The Area Of the Indian state of Rajasthan.
As a hot sand desert, temperatures are high in the thar desert. During the summer months, the day temperature can vary between 40 to 50°C, however the temperature can plummet significantly during the night from 50 to 15°C the same night. during winters, typically ranging from 5 to 24 degrees Celsius. The Luni Is The only major River That Flows Through The Thar Desert.
The Thar Desert Has A Total Population Of Roughly 16.6 Million Inhabitants, with A Population Density Of 83 Persons Per Square Kilometre. This Makes the thar desert The Most Densely Populated Hot sand Desert In The World. For Comparison, The Sahara Desert Covers Over 9.2 Million Square Kilometres, And Has A Population Of Only 2.5 Million Inhabitants, With An Average Population Density Of 0.4 Person Per Square Kilometre Or 1 Person Per Square Mile. Major Cities Located In The thar Desert Are Jaisalmer, Bikaner And Jodhpur.
