These people aren't cowboys, but Brazilian police officers, and they have some of the most bizarre police cars in the world. On Marajó Island, where there are more water buffalo than people, police use these animals to catch criminals, as much of the island is swampland. Water buffalo are much easier and cheaper to train and care for than horses, and they can easily navigate the island's soft, marshy soil. While they're not particularly fast, they can reach their targets despite mud and water. Even the emblem and mascot of the Marajó Island police force is a water buffalo. Thanks to their exceptional swimming abilities, water buffalo also play an important role in the island's economy, providing meat and milk, in addition to fighting crime.
