Commit Virtual 2021: A Smart, Fast and Secure CI/CD Pipeline for OpenShift

Using a high performance custom executor (“Smart Runner”) as a centerpiece of the pipeline architecture, we can transparently integrate technologies like GitLab, Red Hat OpenShift, HashiCorp Vault, and JFrog Artifactory to build a complete highly secure CI/CD pipeline.
The branching model is reflected onto the artifact store’s structure, with produced artifacts being signed with keys depending on the branch thus ensuring branch separation at all times. Deployment verifies the artifacts’ integrity and suitability for the target environments.
The key aspects are “branches as first entity objects” and integration by encapsulation in the system space of a smart custom executor for GitLab Runner which becomes the central building block for all integration efforts.
The smart executor allows us to address several weak spots.
