NOFD 1896 Ahrens Steam Engine Fire Pump
In this video I show some of the work that I did on a steam powered fire pump for NOFD. This was the last steam pump to be in service for New Orleans. Now it is just for parades but I hoped to make it look a little bit more authentic.
Some of the work I did includes building a new brass smoke stack, recreating the brass plumbing, and installing a functioning steam whistle.
Interestingly, our studio was built to house a steam-pump (Phoenix 8) for the New Orleans fire department exactly like this one over a hundred years ago.
