#MixTipMonday When mixing in an isolated environment (aka a home studio) it can be easy to lose perspective. The best way to prevent this and keep yourself on track is to use references. Find a professionally released song that is similar in style and content to your’s and reference it while mixing. To take this to the next level you can use a Matching EQ plugin such as iZotope Ozone 8. This will analyze the frequency content of your song vs your reference and apply EQ curves to “match” your song’s spectrum to your reference’s. The great part about Ozone is that it allows you to dial in as much or as little of this EQ as you want. This way you can add a tiny bit of EQ right at the end of your master chain to get your mix back in the ballpark of your reference.
