Facebook is still the number one social media platform for many real estate pros – but I would bet there are a few mistakes you still may be making.
Mistake #1: Over posting about listings on your personal FB profile.
I get it – you probably have more friends on your personal profile than your FB business page – you feel pressured to promote your listings to everyone - but your personal profile isn’t the place to talk about your listings or your business. I believe in the 80/20 rule – 80% of what you talk about on your personal profile is personal and 20% is business. Post about your hobbies, passions, interests on your personal profile and from time to time – once you’ve posted a listing to your business page – share it over to your personal profile. But, when you do – add something personal. Tag your clients and mention how great they are or what a great family they are to work with. What is the personal part you can add?
Mistake #2: Posting other people’s content to your FB business page
A few years ago – a lot of real estate pros realized it was a great idea to post links to articles from other news sources – Inman, HGTV, etc. And although these are great articles – links to articles get the lowest click through than any other piece of content online. It’s better to post less but post original content. If you have a listing – don’t post a link to the listing on Zillow or realtor.com – post a link to a blog post you wrote about the listing on your own site or create a photo album with some of the best pictures with a post that asks people to call or text you for more details about the house. Remember – content about your business is more than just listings.
Here are a few of my favorite apps for creating unique content:

Mistake #3: Not utilizing Facebook’s free tools.
There are so many great tools Facebook has given users for free that can help your business tremendously. My favorites include the ability to create Facebook lists, pinning your top post on your Facebook business page, scheduling posts for your Facebook business page and groups, reviewing your insights on your Facebook business page and groups, broadcasting live on Facebook on your personal profile, page or group, creating photo slideshows on your FB business page – and the list goes on and on. Before you spend money on Facebook – take a peek to review the plethora of free tools!
