I have seen parents write their child's address, parent's names, and phone numbers in large print and tape it to the child's backpack. Of course, this is a good method for a nonverbal child who will need to be identified if lost, but this also exposes the child's information to any onlookers.
A more discrete way to add identifying information to a child's backpack is to use an NFC tag. The NFC tags can also be attached to the child's shoes or some other article of clothing.
In this video, I demonstrate how to discreetly add a child's address and parent information to an NFC tag, which can be scanned with mobile devices to receive pertinent information if a child gets lost. I used Google Docs to create the link to the child's information. This information can be edited and/or removed at any time. Share a link to the Google Doc that can not be edited.
This method, paired with an Apple Airtag, can provide additional assurance as parents can track their child's location at any time.
