The hatch was one of the most problematic mechanics in old Dead by Daylight. It caused so many issues it's just crazy. Survivors escaping practically in the middle of the match, hour long stand-offs - all this sounds like a fever dream now, but it was very much the reality for DBD players in first several years. In this video I’m gonna break down the full history of the hatch—how it worked, how it was abused, and the chaos it brought to the game.

In case you randomly stumbled upon this video and you're wondering what this game even is, it's called Dead by Daylight. It's an asymmetric multiplayer horror game developed and published by BHVR Interactive. It's a 4v1game in which one player takes on the role of a killer and the other four play as survivors. The killer's goal is to hunt and impale each survivor on sacrificial hooks to appease a malevolent force known as the Entity.
