Rare mushrooms used to be the perfect food source, as they never spoiled and had no ill effects, while still being perfectly farm-able in the swamps & beaver dams. Unfortunately, the rare mushrooms now make you sick on consumption, though they will still server as a somewhat useful food source. They are also a crafting ingredient, required for making such items as the Lesser Antidote.
