About the experiment:
Hairpin vortex is a special kind of vortex structure, whose reproduction and evolution are very important in turbulence investigation. Therefore, a hemisphere model is employed to produce hairpin vortices. Through time-resolved tomographic PIV experiment, 4D velocity could be obtained. Furthermore, 4D pressure can be derived using the technique of PIV based pressure reconstruction, which makes a comprehensive study of hairpin vortices on both kinetic and dynamic perspectives possible.
This movie shows the evolution process of hairpin vortices. Vortices are identified by the λci-criterion and the color denotes the magnitude of the streamwise velocity.
