Two important reasons to deny observation of your hotel room:
1. Casual thieves (potentially hotel employees with keyed access to the room) are unlikely to try to enter your room if they are unsure if it is occupied, as they will seek to avoid confrontation. 2. Obscuring the layout and condition of your hotel room denies committed thieves, abductors, and sexual predators (also potentially hotel employees, having keyed access to the room) tactical advantage. A serious intruder will seek to act when a potential victim is in a position of disadvantage such as sleeping, showering, or using the toilet. By obscuring your exact activities and location within the room, you can deny the bad guys the advantage and be in a better position to fight or escape.
