Ethernet Connected but No Internet? Fix Unidentified Network on Windows 11
Is your Ethernet cable plugged in, but Windows 11 still says “No internet” or “Unidentified network”? Don’t replace the router yet. In many cases, the PC is physically connected through Ethernet, but something failed during network setup.
Common causes include a loose cable, bad LAN port, router issue, DHCP failure, broken IP configuration, or Ethernet driver problem. In this guide, I’ll show you the safest troubleshooting order to find the real cause before replacing hardware or reinstalling Windows.
✅ Step 1: Check the Ethernet cable and router lights
✅ Step 2: Try another LAN port on the router or switch
✅ Step 3: Test another Ethernet cable or another device
✅ Step 4: Restart the modem and router in the right order
✅ Step 5: Disable and re-enable the Ethernet adapter
✅ Step 6: Run the Windows Network troubleshooter
✅ Step 7: Check Ethernet status details in Windows Settings
✅ Step 8: Run ipconfig and check IP address + default gateway
✅ Step 9: Run ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, and ipconfig /flushdns
✅ Step 10: Update or reinstall the Ethernet adapter driver
⚠️ Tip: If ipconfig shows an address starting with 169.254, DHCP likely failed. If the default gateway is blank, the PC may not be reaching the router properly.
