In this video I break down understanding the stock market & day trading by explaining what float and volume are. Float is the amount of shares offered to the public, and this is your supply. Volume is the amount of shares traded in day, and this your demand. To be successful day trading in the stock market, you have to understand how supply and demand work, and realize that stocks don't move on their own. People move stocks. People are the demand, so if you have a low supply of shares (float) and high demand (volume) the price of the stock will most likely go up very quickly. If you have a high supply of shares (float) and low demand (volume) the stock price will probably go down or not move at all. To make money day trading, you have to catch the big rips which means you have to understand how supply and demand work in the stock market before you start day trading.
