In this tutorial, you will learn how to password protect files on a Mac.
Create a new folder on the desktop, then drag the files you want to lock into it. Click on the Spotlight icon on the menu bar of your Mac, type disk utility and launch Disk Utility from the search results that appear. Click on the "File" menu, point to "New Image", then "Image from Folder". Select the folder which you just created, then click on "Choose". From the "Image Format" menu, select "read/write". From the "Encryption" menu, select "128-bit AES encryption". Enter the password for this folder twice and must match each other. Make sure you remember or make a note of your password. Click on "Choose". Name the locked disk image and choose a location. Click on "Save". This will turn the folder into a locked disk image. Click on "Done". You can delete the original folder now, if you would like, but do not delete that .DMG (locked disk image) file.
That’s all!
