Phrasal Verb 31 - COME DOWN - English Vocabulary
Today's phrasal verb is ‘come down’.
We're trying to build vocabulary which is the most important thing you can do. To become more fluent in English. We're looking specifically at the most frequently used phrasal verbs and their most commonly used meanings.
Today's phrasal verb ‘come down’ has a few different meanings depending on the context, but today we're looking at the top three.
Number one. If something ‘comes down’, it moves from a higher to a lower position. For example:
• She came down the stairs wearing a beautiful dress.
• Come down off that roof before you get hurt.
Number two, we can also use come down when something is reduced to one particular essential point. For example:
• The meeting came down to a discussion about budget.
• When it comes down to it the rules have not been respected.
Number three, we also use come down to talk about something that is reduced in amount or in value. For example:
• Experts say that inflation is coming down.
• His fever came down after he took the medicine.
