In this video we look at Sub-Surface Scattering (SSS) in Blender EEVEE vs Cycles.

Many natural materials don't just reflect the light on the surface, but actually let some light enter and bounce around ("scatter") underneath the surface (sub-surface). The inside of the object might even change the hue of the light (think: red flesh under white skin). Some of that light gets absorbed, but some might exit again, mixing with the directly reflected light. 3D software like Blender can calculate/simulate this special property to create realistic looking materials.
