Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) is becoming obsolete as India prepares to transition to Bharat Stage 7 (BS7), following an announcement from Transport Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari. This move comes shortly after the European Commission revealed its plan to enforce EURO 7 emission standards for new cars and vans by July 2025, with the same standards extending to new trucks and buses in 2027.
Similar to how BS6 drew from EURO 6 standards, BS7 will be modelled after EURO 7. With the EURO 7 implementation set for July 2025, India is expected to adopt BS7 in the near future.
