Be a problem solver - not the problem
This is something I wish everyone knew (so good thing you're here). When I was an executive, my biggest headaches were caused by people who brought problems to me. Overseeing so many areas of the business, I couldn't solve each one. But the people who brought solutions? Not only did they create positive impressions and reputations, they often created their own career-advancing opportunities. So next time you're stuck or need your boss' help, don't just tell them the problem - think of at least one idea of how to solve the problem.
