Seattle's Historic Kalakala Ferry (and where she is now)
A brief glimpse at the historic Kalakala Ferry from Seattle's past.
Operating in Puget Sound from 1935 to 1967, the Kalakala was a iconic part of Seattle's past (voted 2nd only to the Space Needle) and hugely popular during the World's Fair in 1962.
After retirement, the Kalakala was taken up to Alaska, where it was converted into a seafood processing plant and eventually sunk/beached by Kodiak.
Subsequent to the ship's abandonment, it was "re-discovered" and money was raised for its restoration and transport back to Seattle, however the project has since stalled, and the once great Kalakala has been sitting in various Puget Sound waterways ever since, rusting in hope of eventual restoration, however the future does not seem promising for this Seattle icon
