Reminder that Herpes simplex virus (AKA herpes or fever blisters) is very common!
HSV Type 1 typically causes fever blisters and sores in the mouth, where as Type 2 causes genital herpes. But either type can occur in either location. Once you have herpes, it lives in your body forever. It is only contagious when you are having an active outbreak. But sometimes these breakouts can be minor or asymptomatic, so be very cautious when sharing foods or drinks with others or when kissing.
Fortunately there are good prescriptions (specifically valacyclovir) that can keep it under control. You usually can detect symptoms, like tingling or a burning sensation prior to an outbreak, so that is the best time to start taking medicine.#dermatologist
