I was there. On Saturday, right in the middle of the colorful festivities in Wiler—and this year's parade was something truly special.
The carnival parade started at 2:30 p.m. at the valley station in Wiler—with brass band music, costumes, energy, and joy. Valais 4 you. And then they arrived. At the traditional Lötschental carnival parade, the Tschäggättä bring up the rear of the procession from Lötschental—and that's always a moment you won't soon forget.
But in 2026, this parade holds a special significance. After the landslide of May 2025, the traditional parade no longer started in Blatten, but in Wiler—two mask cellars were destroyed by the landslide, and many masks, furs, and bells were lost. Valais Switzerland. Nevertheless, young carvers managed to create new costumes in record time. Valais Switzerland. The tradition lives on. Stronger than ever.
In this video, I'll take you through the village streets of Wiler—to the Guggenmusik, the masks, the heart of the Lötschental valley.
