"Chapleau Cree First Nation", (Cree: ᔕᑊᓗ ᐃᓂᓂᐗᐠ, šaplo ininiwak), is a Mushkegowuk Cree First Nation located, near Chapleau Township, in the Sudbury District, of Ontario, Canada. The flag of the Nation bears the text in Cree: ᔓᑊᓗ ᐠᕆ ᒪᑫᔑᐤ ᓴᑲᐃᑲᐣ, ("šaplo kri makishiw sakahikan"), which, refers to its main reserve, Chapleau Cree Fox Lake. Chapleau Cree First Nation is a member of Mushkegowuk Council, a regional tribal council, affiliated with the Nishnawbe Aski Nation. The original settlement was connected with the Chapleau and Nebskwashi Rivers, approximately, 1 mile east, of the town of Chapleau. In 1989, the First Nation negotiated, with both the Federal and Provincial governments, to set aside lands, for the use of the First Nation and to establish a permanent community. The Chapleau Cree First Nation is currently situated on the newly established Chapleau Cree First Nation Reserve and is based at the bottom of the Arctic Watershed, which also embodies the largest game preserve, in northern Ontario, the Chapleau Game Preserve.
