Dollar Sign in Excel to Fix Row or Column (2021)
The dollar sign is used to instructs Excel, how to treat the reference when the formula is moved or copied to other cells. In a nutshell, using the $ sign before the row and column coordinates makes an absolute cell reference that won't change. Without the $ sign, the reference is relative and it will change which will result in errors in excel formula.
We can assign dollar sign in excel formula in two ways, ether you can use Shift and dollar sign from keyboard before column or row, or you can use the F4 button from your keyboard. I recommend to use F4 button, it will increase your skills in excel. Press F4 button once, row and column will be assigned with dollar sign, hit twice, dollar sign will be assigned to row and if you hit F4 button thrice, dollar sign will be assigned to column.
It is very good habit to use absolute reference in excel, please use it.
