how to repair threads using helicoil-
I recently bought a 06 sportster to turn into a chopper. The first thing I noticed that was wrong was a broken right side foot peg held on by zip ties. There was a piece of a bolt stuck way down on the inside, and the threads were gone. After some searching, I found the product called Helicoil. What you need to do, is find out the thread pitch and size of the hole to be threaded. in my case it was a 3/8 - 16. Get the right size for your bolt. Also, in my case, the placement of the hole I was drilling was into very hard metal, and it required cutting oil. Go slow, and clean out the shavings occasionally. When it comes to drilling and tapping, make sure the angle is correct, or you won't be able to thread your new piece correctly. I went in at an angle, and it prevented me from being able to thread the piece in flush.
