Dohiar. Abode of the Holy Archangels
Dochiariou Monastery on Mount Athos is known to pilgrims as the abode of the Holy Archangels, a monastery over which the heavenly powers have shown and continue to show special care. The brethren of one of the oldest Athonite monasteries are currently led by a remarkable elder, Archimandrite Gregory (Zumis), who began his spiritual journey at the Kollyvada monastery of Langovarda on the island of Paros. Elder Gregory serves as a guide to the Athonite Monastery of the Holy Archangels, introducing viewers to the history of Dochiariou and its holy relics, including the icon of the Mother of God "Quick to Hear," renowned throughout the Orthodox world, and the wellspring of Archangel Michael. Elder Gregory himself reveals himself to the viewer as a unique source of the age-old wisdom of the Holy Mountain. Geronda shares his worldview and helps compare the "wisdom of this age" with the spiritual principles on which Orthodox Christians should build their spiritual lives.
