How To Film & Edit (in Sony Vegas) a Clone Video (Urgo's YTO 19 Day 347)
Ever wondered how to do those cool clone effects you see people do on YouTube? It's really pretty simple if you follow the following steps / guidelines
1) Find a place to film where the lighting will be consistant during the entire video shoot. The better the lighting the better as well. If you're using daylight if there are any clouds that pass in front of the sun that will cause problems for your video.
2) Place your camera in a trimod and make sure it doesn't move for your entire shot of both clones. If the camera is moved even a little it won't match up correctly.
3) Make sure you know the full range of motion for each clone. Idealy if you want to make editing easier never have the two clones cross paths. If they do ocupy the same space at different times thats ok, but it makes the editing much harder.
4) Something I didn't do in my video but I will try for next time is record one clone and then play back the audio so you get the timing right on the second clone w/o having to guess. This will make it look more natural.
As for editing, you'll need to make sure you have software that supports this. I use Sony Vegas
1) In vegas, place the two clone clips on top of each other (two different tracks) in the timeline.
2) Use the event pan/crop tool and check the mask button at the bottom
3) Use the anhcor create tool to make a box around your clone.
4) After you do that and close the window the clone should be imediatly displayed in the preview window!
5) To make the effect look a little better use the Feather option of Both and 0.2% to make the cloning smoother.
Thats really all there is to it!
